“Wow!!! This is dope, Kero. I love it, I love it!” is what will.i.am has to say about the Bay Area’s Rapper/producer/DJ Kero One’s Early Believers, out today. Three years after receiving Remix Magazine’s Best Hip Hop Album of 2006 award and collaborating with Talib Kweli and Mark Farina on his debut, Kero modulates from soulful jazz tinged tracks to upbeat synth-driven party bangers on his sophomore album.
Early Believers features some of his favorite vocalists such as Gilles Peterson protégé UK singer Ben Westbeech (“When The Sunshine Comes” and “Goodbye Forever”), Finland’s answer to modern soul, Tuomo (“Let’s Just Be Friends” and “Love and Happiness”) and Portland’s Ohmega Watts (“Stay On The Grind”) all showcasing Kero One’s growth and maturity as a writer, composer, vocalist and arranger. Enjoy a free download of the opening track to Early Believers, “Welcome To The Bay,” with Jacqueline Marie.

AND all of you who complete the survey will be entered into a lottery to receive one of the following prizes:
Limited Edition Gotan Project Box Set (7-inch vinyl, CDs, poster, etc)
Limited Edition Lily Allen Vinyl Picture Disk
Two VIP Passes to Giant Step’s Annual Summer Stage show (NY, summer)
Two tickets to Ben Watt at Cielo (NY, Mar 27)
Giant Step selection of current CDs

“SATSURIKU Rejects” is a piano-laden, horn-heavy track with a drum and bass back beat and soft female vocals placed second stage. If you are familiar with earlier tracks from PLANET PIMP, (Storm, Fantastic Planet), you’ll recognize this as a groovier and more soulful departure from their usual organized artful chaos.
Tuesday 24th February 2009 is Mardi Gras, and to celebrate, we’ve got an exclusive cut from Hot 8 Brass Band to give away absolutely FREE. Appropriately entitled “Steamin’ Blues”, this track is only available for one week. To celebrate our new partnership hit the link and head to the Tru Thoughts site to download this amazing joint from New Orleans’ finest, and get into the Mardi Gras spirit.
