Video: J Dilla – “Last Donut of the Night”

Last Donut of the Night from Tuomas Vauhkonen on Vimeo.

In April, Stones Throw launched a video contest, which called fans to make a video of any song from Stones Throw’s catalog and upload it to their Vimeo group for consideration. A couple days a ago, Stones Throw chose to feature the first label-approved video from J Dilla’s anthemic album, Donuts, on their site. Directed by Tuomas Vauhkonen and Jeremias Nieminen, “Last Donut of the Night” is the selected backdrop for the video that views like a short film. Dare we say it’s kinda cute? Heads up that the Stones Throw Contest closes for submissions on July 1st.

Following their fourth studio album release, Blood Pressures (April 2011), The Kills invited filmmakers thirtytwo into their London studio to record live acoustic performances of three album tracks. Above we’ve featured our favorite acoustic, “Baby Says,” a sleepy melody perfect for feet-tapping and daydreaming in your nearest rocking chair. Check out the other two acoustics for “Pots and Pans” and “The Last Goodbye” on YouTube.

Video: Kutiman – “Thru Jerusalem”

[kml_flashembed movie="" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Kutiman has a new YouTube piece out and it’s kind of rocking our world. Part of his ThruYou series, this one’s a little different; Instead of trawling the web for obscure snippets and masterly weaving them into a single piece of audible glory, Kutiman chose to work from original content this time. Traveling to Jerusalem, he met with and filmed different musicians in the historic and diverse city. The piece is pretty epic; Kuti’s signature treatment serves as a beautiful reminder of how different but similar everything can be. Take a look at previous works of Kutiman we’ve posted, as well.
