Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) is offering a contest to win a full weekend getaway to see Questlove and the hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris Puremovement, plus an art exhibition by The African American Museum of Philadelphia which looks at African American expatriate artists during early 20th Century Paris.

We give away concert tickets often, but it’s a rare opportunity to giveaway a full-on vacation: this includes transportation, a two-night stay at The Doubletree Hilton, tickets to the dance performance (4/16), tickets to the Questlove performance with Keren Ann (4/17), free admission to the museum exhibit and some free local food.

The new album from Ghostpoet, Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam, comes with the Gilles Peterson stamp of approval – it was released this month on the Brownswood record label, and singles like “Cash and Carry Me Home” and “Liiines” have been heavily played on the GPWW radio show for months now. Since the US release on February 4th, Ghostpoet has received praise from all kinds of press:

“In a way, Peanut Butter Blues sounds like what Slick Rick might have made if he drank a little bit more, slowed down his flow a touch, and loved messing with synthesizers, drum machines, and laptops.” - Prefix Mag

Our good friend Marques Wyatt is celebrating his birthday this Sunday in LA. DEEP, hands down the best party in LA, if not the States, is also celebrating an anniversary with 12 years of dance music. The line-up for their party looks like a typical Giant Step DJ event – Rich Medina, DJ Spinna, Osunlade, Joe Claussell and of course Marques Wyatt. So if you’re on the west coast this President’s Day weekend, don’t miss this event Sunday night! “Special Hours” means this party goes til 4am, which for LA, is crazytime.
