New Release: DJ Rob Swift – ‘Roc For Raida’ Mix

    March 21st, 2012

Yesterday, a very special collection of defining songs and DJ battle routines of the late Roc Raida were released by DJ Rob Swift. The compilation also includes some unreleased tracks, original “scratch/beat juggle compositions” that Rob has dedicated to Raida, and thought to be lost interview archives.

Rob Swift notes, “It’s not about me this year. It’s about Raida, his wife Tye and their 3 kids (Tia, Nyra and Asia). Proceeds from the mixtape sales will be donated to Raida’s family.”

You can hear a snippet of the mix on Soundcloud. Please support!

New Tracks: Machinedrum – New Beats Teaser

    March 2nd, 2012

Powerhouse producer Machinedrum goes in on this teaser of upcoming 2012 beats. Eleven minutes of electronic ear loving to the max; starting off like the soundtrack to an epic love saga with its sweeping sounds, the mix moves through downtempo dance, drum and bass, and a myriad of other electro experiments before closing out with a tune that sounds like it could be part of an action scene from The Matrix .

Gilles Peterson Worldwide Box Of Delights

    March 1st, 2012

The past few installments of the Worldwide Show, Gilles has been running the show solo – taking us deep into the mind of a musical guru. He never fails to introduce the listening audience to cuts that the artists themselves have barely heard outside of the studio. We are delighted to catch up with this young man as he teaches us a thing or two about proper mixology.

Video: Spank Rock – “Car Song” ft. Santigold

    February 22nd, 2012

An absolutely precious Santigold accompanies Spank Rock on the track and video for “Car Song.” These two are owning with their swanky attire and too cool for school nonchalance. Ready yourself for some NSFW shenanigans towards the end, though – let’s just say: two nekkid blondes and some blue body paint, yeah?

Not sure what any of this has to do with ‘keys to a car’ but seriously – who cares, guys?! Gold foil showers and body paint for life!

The World According To Jonesy – Radio Show #34

    February 3rd, 2012

It’s been an unfortunate start to the new year for funk and soul fans the world over. January saw the passing of three music icons Jimmy Castor, Johnny Otis, and Etta James. Their combined influence on funk, soul, jazz, and even rock-n-roll was profound to say the least. By forging new pathways for future artists they truly inspired generations of fans for years to come. This week Jonesy pays tribute to the passing of these musical legends, by featuring tracks from each artist, intermixed with the standard affair of soulful grooves.
