April 2012 will see the release of the Personal Space: Electronic Soul 1974-1984 compilation album released via Chocolate Industries. “Don’t Challenge Me” by The Makers is featured below and sounds something like a dubbed out underwater space reggae jam…from the 1970’s. Time to practice our underwater space wind.

LA based production duo Rhye are purportedly concealing their identities, so while we can’t quite tell you who they are, we can say that their debut single is pretty rad. “Open” is a dainty, stripped down ballad liable to induce some shivers and floating sensations. You may be familiar with Tensei as our winners of the November 2011 Next Step Contest. Of late, this Chicago-based production duo is gearing up for their upcoming full length album with an EP that’s setting quite the standard.
One showcases the producers’ deft technique in using live instrumentation and ’self-sampling’ to craft their music. The result is a set of some acutely groove-worthy jams. Jam after jam, folks. Get down!

Oakland native and singer-songwriter Jennah Bell brings out her personal brand of folky soul to cover Frank Ocean’s “Swim Good.” A relatively recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music, the now New York City based artist is just beginning to scratch the surface of what is clearly mounds of potential. Can’t wait to hear more from this awesome young lady!

February 28th will mark the release of one of the best albums of this year, Black Radio by the Robert Glasper Experiment. We are beyond thrilled to be hosting the album release show (also on February 28th) at the Highline Ballroom. If you remember anything about the special guest lineup for the album, you already know it’s going to be a night for the books. Find more details further down in this post.
Also, on February 29th Rob and the crew will be getting down on the CBS Late Show With David Letterman with special guests Lupe Fiasco and Bilal. It, too, will be a fine evening.

APAP’s 55th Annual Conference:
New York’s cosmopolitan nature becomes charged with fresh new energies, both local and global, each January, as more than 3400 national and international performing arts leaders and special guests of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) descend upon the city for their annual conference with more than 350 exhibitors in the expo halls at the Hilton (January, 6-10, 2012). The world’s entrepreneurial presenters and agents gear up for the event months in advance to organize close to 1300 showcases in the performing arts. These relatively brief, live performance experiences spark tremendous anticipation for the coming year’s prospects.
Jose James will be presenting material from his upcoming album No Beginning, No End on February 10th and February 11th at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse.

On January 15th, Jose James performed a very private show at Rose Bar, co-organized by Giant Step and Gramercy Park Hotel.
100 lucky people had the opportunity to attend that intimate session where Jose James performed with his four-member band.
A gorgeous video and mesmerizing track by London artist Delilah. “Love You So” features Delilah’s addictive honey-coated vocals carrying a quality vaguely similar to Teedra Moses, but carried out completely differently.
Love the simplicity, muted tones, textures, and motion edits in this video. Can’t stop staring or listening. Repeat.
