Strut Records Compilation: Walter Gibbons, Mixed With Love

Strut Records has released Walter GibbonsJungle Music (Essential & Unreleased Remixes 1976-1986), the first multi-label compilation of edits by Walter Gibbons, one of the most important and unheralded DJ / remixers in New York dance music history. He was a pioneer of reel to reel edits and the art of the remix, and a tangible link between early hip hop and disco through his quickfire turntable skills developed during the mid-‘70s. For more on Walter Gibbons, his life and his work, plus a free MP3 download, check out Strut Records. Above, enjoy the 70-minute-mix from Disco Sonitus (Blackbeard’s Toni Rossano & DJ D) made up of many of the tracks on the album.

Video: Cee-Lo’s “Fuck You”

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/CAV0XrbEwNc" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

New music from Cee-Lo! A great way to start the day even when it’s just a teaser video and and there’s a big Fuck You coming right at ya. Expressing hatred with a smiley face and gospel chorus: only a man like The Soul Machine could pull that off. The full-length, Cee-Lo Green is the Lady Killer is coming, not nearly soon enough.

GPWW 8/9/10: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble Feature

Despite the bad weather which kept us off the rooftop, we were very grateful for Gilles Petersons secret performance at NYC Soho House on Sunday; he played a killer set and naturally got the crowd moving. If you too want to be included in the hippest swanky events, always featuring quality music, follow our tweets for exclusive event entrances, plus crafty art and vinyl contests.

This week on GPWW, Gilles Peterson features the words and sounds of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Their interview reveals a lot about the group: from their introduction to brass instruments and what they’ve been through to what’s next for them as a band. The first part of the show is mostly old favorites interspersed with brand new music from artists like Nia Andrews and Marcos Valle.
