Kelis’ new album Flesh Tone hits stores today and has already been tipped as one of 2010′s “Best Bets” by Billboard. The David Guetta-produced single “Acapella” is already an international No. 1 hit, while the festive “4th of July (Fireworks)” is a club banger that mixes R&B soulfulness and electro breaks with a rip-roaring wobbly bass riff. Kelis says of the album, “there’s a physicality behind it – it’s about blood, muscle, heart. I was pregnant when I recorded 75 or 80 percent of this music… And that became a real driving force for me. She also worked with label head will.i.am, Alle, Benny Benassi, Free School, Boys Noize and Burns to achieve her club-ready sound.

The incomparable Cee-Lo Green of Goodie Mob and Gnarles Barkley fame is another Giant Step favorite. Anything he touches is gold(schlager), including covers, a rare and valuable trait in an artist. So check out this cover of the Band Of Horses‘ song “No One’s Gonna Love You,” and get lost in the love story. Fair warning: the video is slightly NSFW – a bit of tasteful nudity.
Cee-Lo’s next full release is slated for the fall, with the early title: Cee Lo Green is The Lady Killer. You can get a free download of the single MP3, “Georgia” on his site.

We’ve had an eye out for Chiddy Bang since we heard a bit of their upcoming album, The Opposite of Adults, and their fun video of the title track. This video “Sooner or Later” has a much heavier tone, shot entirely from the first person view of Chiddy, live in Nigeria. The message of this video calls for the Nigerian government to take responsibility for the poverty levels and the accompanying problems in the country … sooner or later.
Check out Chiddy Bang’s recent interview with The Couch Sessions here.
Vonnegutt, a new four man hip-hop band signed by Outkast-founded label Purple Ribbon Records, is featured in this Big Boi track, “Follow Us,” off of his upcoming album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (out July 6th).
