James Blake – “Love What Happened Here”

James Blake‘s self-titled album didn’t include this track, but it’s been floating around the internet since Benji B played it on his BBC radio show. Unreleased and taken from this old Fantastic Mr Fox mix, “Love What Happened Here” shows James Blake at a slightly earlier stage in his electronic echo-y musical development. Don’t sleep on the full-length album, featuring the beautiful singles “The Wilhelm Scream” and “Limit to Your Love.”

The new album from Ghostpoet, Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam, comes with the Gilles Peterson stamp of approval – it was released this month on the Brownswood record label, and singles like “Cash and Carry Me Home” and “Liiines” have been heavily played on the GPWW radio show for months now. Since the US release on February 4th, Ghostpoet has received praise from all kinds of press:

“In a way, Peanut Butter Blues sounds like what Slick Rick might have made if he drank a little bit more, slowed down his flow a touch, and loved messing with synthesizers, drum machines, and laptops.” - Prefix Mag

GPWW 2/16/11: Worldwide Family Mixtape by Deep Space Orchestra

Gilles Peterson continues his journey as a global force, this week bringing a mix by Deep Space Orchestra, the electronic UK duo. First he digs into all kinds of new music, including Duffstep, Penguin Café, Rick Wilhite, Mr Raoul K, Bibio, Al Quetz and The Stepkids (a hipsterish rock group, the latest signing to Stones Throw Records). Gilles also takes a moment to honor the recently deceased, legendary Jazz pianist George Shearing. You might be interested to learn that George Shearing had a Latin music streak as you’ll hear in his rendition of Horace Silver’s “Senor Blues” – we learn new something every week from this show. Deep Space Orchestra comes in with a mix of their own stuff and their favorites including Cottam, Chateau Fight, Bicep and KRL. Afterwards, Gilles closes it up with a few of his musical staples: James Blake and Ramadanman.

Les Nubians – New Album Nü Revolution Out April 19th

Les Nubians are back with a new album, featuring “Veuillez Veiller Sur Vos Rêves” (Don’t Let Your Dreams Fall Asleep) and “Afrodance” (streaming below). The new album, Nü Revolution may be the most impressive representation of Les Nubians’ Afropean Soul to date. Featuring special guests ranging from African music legend Manu Dibango, whose “Soul Makossa” crossover classic gets a politically charged make-over, to indie soul icon Eric Roberson, with South African pop stars Freshly Ground, Ghanian-American MC Blitz The Ambassador and Polish MC John Banzaï along for the ride. Somehow, Les Nubians manage to make the blend of so many diverse elements seem logical and organic; it flows quite naturally from their multicultural lives.

Nü Revolution will be released on April 19th on Shanachie Entertainment.
