Yvette Rovira: “Let’s Go Out Tonight” + MP3

“Let’s Go Out Tonight” has a backing of funk guitar, horns, and a rolling drumbeat behind Yvette Rovira’s powerful vocals, creating the upbeat dance tune of the album that will start off any night with a burst of energy. The track is a musical and emotional contrast to the rest of the album, which draws on heartfelt, poignant lyrics dealing with love, ambition and social responsibility.

Still, it’s Friday and you might see Yvette Out Tonight, maybe performing with the The Lifted Crew. After the jump, watch her interview with Fiona Bloom’s Efficacy Video Series.

Gregory Porter: “Pretty” + MP3

Our friends at AMG have dubbed Gregory Porter to be “up there with José James,” as far as male vocalists in the amorphous genre called Jazz. You know how we feel about José James, and we’re more than grateful to hear all this new male vocal talent.

Download the song “Pretty” from his album Water. “Love makes us all crazy,” he says of this song. A soulful tribute to a woman from Porter’s past, “Pretty” is an understated ensemble piece that is bolstered by the alto sax work of Yoske Sato.
