Video: Sky Ferreira – “Everything is Embarrassing”

Sky Ferreira got her a little vintage Madonna steez going on. In this video for “Everything is Embarrassing,” she flails about like the natural carefree pop star rocker she seems destined to be. That early 90s pop zest on this tune is exactly what we needed to make this sunny Friday seem all the more perfect.

Pitchfork even gave it the honor of Best New Track when it first came out – not too shabby. And she’s quite easy on the eyes with that carefully crafted “messy” hair, too, huh? Winning all around.

The track is part of her upcoming EP, Ghost, where Sky calls on an impressive cast of producers, including Greg Kurstin (Santigold, The Shins), Jon Brion (Fiona Apple), and Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher).

Look out for Ghost on October 16.

New Track: Escort – “Starlight” (RAC Remix)

Remember the way too fun Escort and how awesome they were with that “Why Oh Why” video?! Time to put on those roller skates, leotards, leg warmers and to get to shakin’!

“Starlight” was recently remixed by RAC to give the track an additional layer of bouncy zest. How can you listen to Escort and it not be carefree happy times 24/7?! Always a pick me up. We can’t help but want to transition into Madonna’s “Lucky Star” and keep the party going.

Video: The Souljazz Orchestra – “Conquering Lion”

Chances are that if you’re named The Souljazz Orchestra, you probably make music that sounds freakin’ awesome. Happily, we are so correct. The above is the first video from the group’s recent album release, Solidarity. This live rendition of “Conquering Lion” was filmed at Mercury Lounge in Ottawa (the band’s home turf) and fits squarely in line with the song’s beastly title – owning.

Shake that hip one time.

New Track: Clementine & The Galaxy – “Heart Shaped Box”

New space-pop duo Clementine & The Galaxy is stirring up quite a buzz of late. Some folks may recognize lead singer Julie Hardy as having performed as part of the dazzling miss Ellie Goulding’s band.

Yesterday, the two released a new single called “Heart Shape Box,” which is a breathy electro-pop joy of a time. The vocals give us hints of Bjork and Florence Welch – nothing to mess with there. This definitely needs to be on a soundtrack somewhere. Awesome vibes.

With four NYC dates coming up in the next month (see below) – including an invite only video release party that we’ll be sure to be snooping around at – the momentum is clearly just building.

Tour Dates
9/28 – Arlene’s Grocery – New York, NY (w/ Futurist)
10/09 – Flux Studios – New York, NY (Video Release Party!)
10/16 – Alphabet Lounge – New York, NY (CMJ)
10/18 – Rockwood Music Hall – New York, NY (CMJ)
