Driis – Private Garden (Produced by 9th Wonder)

Driis, the musical alter ego of Hackney-born entertainer Idris Elba has been carving out a name in music for years, producing, performing and DJing while honing his craft. The uplifting 5-track EP, High Class Problems Vol 1, includes the popular Pete Rock-produced single “Please Be True,” leaked track “Best I Can” as well as new material, preparing music fans for the hotly anticipated album due in late 2010 on Hevlar Recordings.

2010 is set to be another huge year for Idris, who made his name starring as the infamous Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire. Not only will he be starring in major blockbusters including Takers, The Losers, and his feature Legacy (in which he is also the executive producer), but Driis will also be performing at a series of lives dates across the UK, Europe and the US, as well as several DJ guest spots.

Animatedcartunes Releases Georgia Anne Muldrow and Adriana Evans

ae_covergam2

The indie soul and hip hop label animatedcartunes has some heavy releases out now in Georgia Anne Muldrow‘s Early and Adriana Evans‘ re-issue of Nomadic. Videos and downloads after the jump.

Adriana Evans’ 1997 self-titled debut was critically acclaimed but commercially panned, leaving her disenchanted with the music industry. This led to a seven year hiatus in Evans’ musical career, followed by the limited sophomore release, Nomadic. Nomadic was released on Evans’ independent label to be sold only at shows and on her website… until now. Animatedcartunes is proud to re-issue this hard-to-find classic, now enhanced to include a music video for the lead single “7 Days”. The album draws its inspiration from many genres of music including samba, reggae, rock and hip-hop, with soul firmly rooted at the base.

Georgia Anne Muldrow is a singer, producer, songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, known for her abstract production and writing style. In 2005, she introduced herself to the indie scene with the self-released Worthnothings EP, eventually signed to Stones Throw and began to get attention from artists like Mos Def, SA-RA, and Erykah Badu.  These are Georgia Anne Muldrow’s “Early” recordings. She wrote, produced and recorded this lean, ten track album entirely by herself. Seventeen years young with an old soul, Georgia managed to blend the composing acumen of Roy Ayers and J Dilla with the vocal stylings of Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill.
