Red Hot + Rio 2
Red Hot + Rio 2 is a modern tribute to the late 60's Brazilian Tropicália movement. The album will shed new light on the songs of this influential, politically charged era, which changed the culture of the country forever. Red Hot + Rio 2 is the latest entry in the series of tribute albums produced by the Red Hot Organization to raise money for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
The compilation features over 33 original collaborations between Brazil's legendary musicians and today's international indie artists including John Legend, Os Mutantes, Devendra Banhart, Caetano Veloso, Seu Jorge, Beck, Bebel Gilberto, José González, Beirut, Tom Zé, Javelin, of Montreal, Marisa Monte, Madlib, and many more. Red Hot + Rio 2 is the successor to the 1996 original Bossa Nova inspired Red Hot + Rio, which received praise such as "the latest and the hippest" by Vogue, and "an inspiring and modern sounding tribute" by Entertainment Weekly.
The weekly club Afro Funké is the brainchild of African Afro Roots Reggae star, Rocky Dawuni, who realized LA's need for a night dedicated to African music, culture and art and it's far reaching legacy around the world. Dawuni, who's based in LA and his native Ghana, together with producer and photographer Cary Sullivan created Afro Funké, bringing on board resident DJ and partner Jeremy Sole's Musaics. Each week Afro Funké presents guest DJs, live performances, dancers, record release parties, fundraisers, art installations, crafts and more while Sole spins his unique Musaics, or sound collage-blends of hip hop, jazz/funk, dub reggae, afro beat, and remixed world beats; pieced together with tribal breaks, and uplifted by dubbed-out turntable manipulation and live instrumentation.
