Giant Step and YOTEL New York present King Britt & Monique Bingham
Thursday, August 11
FOUR at YOTEL New York, New York NY
Giant Step has a long tradition of great Thursday night parties; our early days at the Metropolis Café, Village Gate, S.O.B.'s, Supper Club and Shine, and, in 2011, the first installment, on July 28th, of our new series which featured Rich Medina, Dego, Maya Azucena and Sophia Urista. On August 11th we invite you to join us again for another amazing Thursday evening, this time with King Britt and very special guest vocalist Monique Bingham. The FUNKTION-ONE soundsystem will be bumping and the dance floor will be poppin' so come and enjoy yourself indoors at FOUR or outside on the Terrace at YOTEL New York.

King by name, King by nature; King Britt is a truly pioneering musician who is widely recognized a member of the royal elite of the Dance Music world. Based in Philadelphia, King Britt has been breaking the traditional boundaries and forging a unique path as a producer, musician, DJ, label boss and media revolutionary for over 20 years.
Releasing his first record (E-Culture – Tribal Confusion) in 1990, King went onto tour worldwide with Digable Planets whilst continuing to develop his love of Dance Music culture and laying the foundations for his prodigal solo career. In 1994, alongside Josh Wink he launched Ovum Recordings and also formed Sylk130 – a collective of Philadelphia's finest musical talent including Lady Alma, Alison Crockette and Ursula Rucker. Their first album When The Funk Hits The Fan went on to sell over 500,000 copies and essentially provided the blueprint for the Philly Neo-Soul resurgence.
In addition to these achievements, King is one of the world's most respected remixers. He has added his unique touch to hugely diverse range of artists such from Miles Davis, The O'Jays and Curtis Mayfield through to Macy Gray, Solange, Femi Kuti and Everything But The Girl. King Britt's remix of "Contemplation" (Josh One) was nominated for the Dancestar Remix Of The Year Award and maintains its killer status upon the most discerning dance floors.
Most recently King Britt has released the Intricate Beauty LP – a solo artist album for Nervous Records – and is also collaborating with Rucyl Mills on the Saturn Never Sleeps project which incorporates, primarily, a unique live show fusing audio and visuals into a thought provoking world of sight and sound, and is also an independent record label. Britt has also recently produced the new Bedouin Soundclash LP, a track for the new King Sunny Ade album and a number of remixes for the likes of Preservation Hall Jazz Ensemble featuring Mos Def, Glitch Mobb, Jay Haze and Dilouya.
As the front-woman of the now defunct 90's acid jazz septet Abstract Truth, Monique Bingham penned and performed its two most notable tunes: "Get Another Plan" in 1996 and "We Had a Thing" in 1998. Both were released by legendary DJs François K, on Wave Music, and Gilles Peterson, on his own Talking Loud. The blissful Matthias Heilbronn house mix of "We Had a Thing" now widely considered an underground classic, injected Monique's words and voice directly into the veins of the international house scene. From 2002 to 2011 Monique has released records with some of the most prolific producers and record labels in independent music, including Quentin Harris, Matthias Heilbronn, Liquid People, Kerri Chandler, Ralf Gum, Phil Asher & Bah Samba, Karizma and R2 to name a few.
In 2011, Monique released her very first solo production on her imprint Bigga Sounds. "You Me World" written by M.Bingham/D.Ferrer includes remixes from beasts and legends, Ralf Gum, Jon Cutler, South African house heroes DJ Christos and Leighton Moody. She has also completed her first full length artist album with Matthias Heilbronn which could be considered her most lyrically biting work to date.
