We are very pleased to present the Australian quartet Hiatus Kaiyote at Le Poisson Rouge. Due to popular demand, this show had to be moved from The Slipper Room to Le Poisson Rouge, so you don’t want to miss it! Tickets bought at the Slipper Room will be honored.
The night promises to feature the finest neo-soul, hip-hop, and electronic beats along with flavors of Latin, Jazz, and opera. Led by enigmatic songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Nai Palm, Hiatus have been gaining popularity and support from renowned artists such as Questlove, Miguel, Erykah Badu. Last January 2013, the Australian quartet was picked as the Best Breakthrough Artist Of The Year at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards.
Critically acclaimed by Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Bluesy rock-n-soul duo CharlieRED (Rockie Evans & producer Cobaine Ivory) will be opening the night with their new EP Religion.
About Hiatus Kaiyote:
Based in Melbourne, the four-piece fuses neo-soul, hip-hop and electronic beats along with flavours of Latin, dubstep and opera, all presented with a cinematic sheen. The band formed in mid-2011, and ever since, they have been racking up accolades, including a listing in the Who’s Hot 2012 feature in Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival Magazine. Their debut release, Tawk Tomahawk (April 2012) peaked in the Top 10 played Albums on KCRW in June and July, 2012. The band has shared bills with Brainfeeder Records artists, Taylor McFerrin, Lapalux and oOoOO, Warp legends Chris Clark and Harmonic 313, sound genius Robin Fox. They have already been featured at Woodford Folk Festival (2011/12) and The Melbourne International Jazz Festival (2012).
Adding to the excitement is the fact that the band has already sold copies of their EP in the thousands with no marketing budget. Hiatus Kaiyote has already achieved big successes from sold out performances (400+) in Melbourne to upcoming festival dates throughout Australia in fall, 2012, to the worldwide group of fans that are amassing exponentially in their support. When you add in the transcendent music the band is creating for their follow-up LP, expect to hear a lot more from this group.
