Video: Kendra Morris – “Concrete Wave”

    November 23rd, 2011

New Wax Poetics Records signee Kendra Morris has just dropped the first single and video from her spring 2012 slated album. The dynamic personality and bellowing voice sings to command an audience.

The song is "about going after something that is so wrong,” says Kendra, “but it feels so good, and you go ahead and do it anyways. You ride that wave, and the high it gives you is incredible, but eventually you hit a crack in the pavement and are bound to spill.”

The video is an interesting tale of an obsessive lover that chases the laissez-faire Kendra to no avail. The sassy singer teases him along much to his chagrin.

New Track: Planningtorock- “Living It Out” (When Saints Go Machine Remix)

Planningtorock is a little difficult to forget with her quirky tunes. We introduced you the creative genius back in September with her "Living It Out" video, and today we have a pretty awesome remix from the super rad When Saints Go Machine.

And it's not like the Saints are any more normal. What transpires is an eerie electro pop remix on a tripped out extraterrestrial kick. Enjoy and download below!

    Video: Moon Taxi – “Cabaret”

    November 23rd, 2011

Using a mix of stock footage, Moon Taxi has created a both modern and vintage homage to Bennie's Boom Boom Room in Mississippi, a club the band frequently plays. "Cabaret" is the title track from the group's forthcoming album due for February 7th, 2012. The song is a marvelous rockish pop rock tune with reggae undertones - it's going to get stuck in your head.

New Track: yU – “If U Down”

    November 22nd, 2011

DC rapper and producer yU's upcoming album, The Earn, is just around the corner with its December 13th release date. "If U Down" is the first single off the album. The drama-ridden track is produced by the super talented Slimkat78 and carries nothing less than the signature urgency of a yU flow. If yU's flow was a persuasive argument, it'd probably win - he could pretty much be saying anything, really. Just saying.

Look forward to several amazing appearances on the upcoming album, including Nicholas Ryan Gant, Imani Bilal, Bilal Salaam, and Diamond District, to name some.

(HPS) Video: Pollyn – “How Small We Are” (Nozinja’s Shangaan Electro Version) ft. Nurse Matlala

    November 22nd, 2011

Pollyn "How Small We Are" from Pollyn on Vimeo.

Pollyn's adorable "How Small We Are" track that we shared back in July now takes whole new life on this remix. Nozinja and Nurse Matlala of South Africa's Shangaan Electro help create a pulsating other worldly sound that we just can't get enough of.

The video above takes place in Soweto, South Africa with Nurse Matlala rocking out and doing her thing. The idea behind the remix was "to give [Nozinja and Nurse Matlala] the lyrics and have them translate them to create their own version of the song. They had free reign to do their thing. The track has a new brevity to it, several beats teetering insistently on as Nurse pontificates sagely over it all." Amazing.
