Keeping true to form, Giant Step and Turntables on the Hudson are teaming up yet again to invigorate your body while enlightening your spirit. Earlier this year, on April 4th, 2009, Numero Group mounted the first Eccentric Soul Revue, packing Chicago's Park West Theater with soul-hungry acolytes, satisfying them and then some with the real thing; the triple-header of R&B: the soul revue.
If you live in New York, Numero Group, with the help of The Bowery Presents, is bringing the soul revue to the City, for one night only, at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg this Friday. Taking cues from Stax’s European tour in 1967, Numero’s Eccentric Soul Revue will feature one tight backing band -- JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound -- with a revolving cast of singers to include Syl Johnson, The Notations, Renaldo Domino and Missy Dee.. An interactive slideshow will be projected behind the artists, showcasing photos and ephemera from Chicago’s forgotten soul history.
Tickets are still available via The Bowery Presents. If you purchased tickets to the just-canceled Thursday, November 12th show at Grand Ballroom already, they will be honored at Friday's date.

The Wayward Saints' relaxed, jazz-infused sound rides seductively over hypnotic beats to create a unique groove on Future Vintage. This eclectic mix is the creation of two veterans - Presto and Avatar - of the California hip hop scene, whose late-night jam sessions laid the groundwork for the album. Its warm organic overtones signal a departure from the robotic rhythms of Wayward Saints' urban contemporaries, instead providing the listener with a relaxed atmosphere of luminescent grooves.
With live instrumentation throughout, Presto laces melodies with MiniMoogs, Rhodes keyboards and the ASR-10, while Avatar holds down the low end on bass and rhythm guitar. Jacob Slim, Smile Oak & DJ Rylo round out the roster, contributing lead guitar, saxophone and turntables, respectively. Wayward Saints bridge the old school with the new, creating a sound for cratediggers and wine-tasters alike. The sample-worthy material on their debut album Future Vintage will surely find its place in the crates of DJs and beat afficionados.
