We're back with another Steve Madden music event on Tuesday, June 29th from 7pm to 10pm. We will be holding the festivities at the beautiful Ramscale Penthouse, with a very special performance by Nikki & Rich showcasing songs from their upcoming debut album. Guest DJ will be, our friend, the illustrious DJ Moni. Complimentary cocktails will be provided by SVEDKA Vodka, and because we love you, entrance is free, but strictly RSVP only. So come early to avoid the lines and enjoy the music.
Giant Step and Focus Features invite you to an advance screening of The Kids Are All Right, the award-winning film from Lisa Cholodenko (Laurel Canyon), at Cobble Hill Cinemas in Brooklyn, on Tuesday, June 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Entrance is free, but strictly RSVP only.
Bilal, the Philadelphia born, Grammy nominated artist who has collaborated and performed with the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu (he performed on her tour June 8th in Philly), and The Roots, is releasing his third studio album, Airtight's Revenge, on September 14th. Although classically trained and jazz-influenced, Bilal says this next album will be an eclectic mix of "jazz, hip-hop, soul, blues, and experimental free music." To tide us over before the release of his much anticipated album, here's a free MP3 download of his song, "Free." The song will not make an appearance on Airtight's Revenge, but it's the first time the fully mixed and mastered version of this song has been released for download. Check it out and see what you think.
Bilal - "Free" [MP3]
In the back of a black cab with just a microphone, an amp, and his crazy skills, Jamie Lidell lays down a looped beat box and the soulful vocals from his new track, "The Ring," off of his recently released album, Compass. Riding around the streets of London, he creates a taste of signature Jamie Lidell magic.
Gilles Peterson had a mix for this one, but he decided to give us 'pure music' instead. Meklit Hadero (pictured) contributes with her beautiful version of the classic "Feelin' Good." And while Gilles is firmly stuck in World Cup mode, he's also living in Wondaland with Janelle Monáe, like most of us. This week also features another Giant Step favorite - Andreya Triana of Ninja Tune - plus a Water Color track from the Now-Again/Jazzman compilation California Funk, and artists like Orgone, Carlos Y Gaby, Garrincha, Elmor Judd, Sergio Mendes and more.
