Rob Symmeon's breakthrough album The Chosen One, released on Redbud Recordings in 2006, is a very strong collection of songs, and has already made a lasting impression on the worldwide reggae community. This album boasts some of the most legendary musicians in reggae with Val Douglas, Noel Alphonso, Bongo Herman, Dalton Browne, Andy Bassford, Kevin Batchelor, Jerry Johnson and Barnibus laying down the grooves and melodies on a dozen new tunes. The album also features guest appearances from Junior Kelly, Terry Ganzie, Willow Wilson and Simpleman with outstanding production coming from Noel Alphonso (son of legendary Skatalite Roland Alphonso), Victor "Ticklah" Axelrod (Dub Side Of The Moon, Antibalas, Roots Combination), and Brooklyn DJ Mikey Assassin of Demolition Sound. Named for the Biblical high-priest "Simeon the Just," known for his piety for life and benevolence toward his people, Symeonn sees The Chosen One as a "voice for the have nots, the downpressed, the fatherless -- the voice of those society has forgotten." When asked why he chose to embark upon a career in music he simply states: "I didn't choose music. It chose me. It's my calling. It's what I was chosen for."
Message In The Music
No More feat. Willow Wilson
"Rob Symeonn's 'Chosen One' takes you back to Kingston circa 1974; his pure, easy vocals are perfectly suited to the Augustus Pablo-inspired trak, and in classic dub fashion, its flipside is beautifully understated." — XLR8R
"Drink up this nourishment of roots, herbs and when the bass line kicks in, digest the conscious message Rob seasoned to warm you up with faith in the Almighty." — The Beat Magazine
