Simply Good Music Volume One
Released On: Jul 27, 2004
Released By: Giant Step Records
Welcome to the next installment from Giant Step where our goal is to deliver quality new music. Over the years we were always asked to define the Giant Step sound. Instead of having to explain the different genres and influences that make us so unique, we use the phrase "It's simply good music". In the end, this is what it is all about.
'Simply Good Music' features exclusive and unreleased tracks, as well as songs that were only available on vinyl until now. Esthero, once known for her trip-hop sounds, delivers "O.G. Bitch," a fierce dancehall song filled with sharp words. Global grooves get a Detroit style remix with "Bandy Bandy," a collaboration between Zap Mama and Erykah Badu given a special treatment by the legendary producer Carl Craig. Hip-hop gets thrown for a loop with picks from UK upstarts Roots Manuva and Ty and neo-soul is represented by innovative artists like Amp Fiddler, Carl Hancock Rux and Sara Devine. Giant Step's own Donnie branches out from his southern soul sounds delivering a haunting vocal on DKD's futuristic broken-beat "We Can Make It." It's a wild ride of tunes but listeners are in good hands since Giant Step's been spreading unique music to the masses for more than a decade.
