Toronto-based Austra’s Habitat, a brand-new four-track EP, is out now on Domino (Rest of the World) / Paper Bag (Canada).
“'Habitat' is an old song that we've waited almost three years to release," says the band's Katie Stelmanis. "It didn't seem to fit with the sounds of Feel it Break or Olympia, so we decided to finally put it out as a single along with 3 new instrumental tracks. There's a lot of live versions of the song online but people have always pressed us to make a proper recording, so we are especially excited to announce these limited-edition physical copies of the EP. It’s a euro-style computer music experiment produced with love from me, Maya, and Dorian."
Austra's last studio album, Olympia was written and recorded in collaboration with members of their touring band. The album takes influences from musical sources including South American wind ensembles, eastern folk music, 80s industrial and Chicago house. Olympia remains a pop record of deep layers and subtle gesture.
The band recently completed US west coast dates with Chvrches after having performed at Coachella and Sasquatch and have announced US support dates with Broken Bells.
