Mizell: The Mizell Brothers at Blue Note Records 1972-1976 and Beyond
Released On: Sep 13, 2005
Released By: Blue Note Records
Larry and Fonze Mizell are one of the premier songwriting teams in the history of pop music. During their reign at Blue Note in the 1970s, the brothers created a sound that combined the deeply musical elements of jazz with the funky grooves of R&B. Their work with Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey and A Taste of Honey defined jazz-funk and those seminal recordings are heavily sampled today. This compilation introduces the Mizell's signature sound and offers three unreleased gems for the crate diggers among us: the raw and dirty "Funked Up" by Gary Bartz, an alternate version of the classic "Think Twice" and a newly revisited cut culled from an almost forgotten Bobbi Humphrey session.
