Never a dull moment with Quantic and Alice Russell. Their new video for "Magdalena" would invariably light up any dim winter day with the adorable animations and dreamy landscape visuals. The scrapbook aesthetic creates an immediate nostalgia and yearning for something more.
The lady that always gives you a full body experience with her music, Alice Russell, returns to her original label (Tru Thoughts) to release her upcoming fifth album. Working again with the brilliant producer TM Juke, Alice Russell is definitely going to be slangin' some tasty treats. The "Heartbreaker" video above serves as the first of many gems to come.
Alice speaks on the track, "It is a broken hearted love song about the end of a relationship," explains Alice. "it's about that time when you're just emotionally exhausted by it all and you are at the stage where you know you just have to let it go, and you are resigned to it all being over."
Emotion is certainly something Alice's delivery is never short of. Can't wait for her new album in early 2013!
Super soul goodness thanks to our August Next Step winner of ours! Canadian singer/songwriter Lady C is also a dancer and choreographer internationally recognized for her house dancing and b-girl moves.
In preparation for the release of her debut EP, Lady C recently released a video for "On Your Mind" to give folks a taste of what's coming. Watch miss C seductively pop and lock her way into your consciousness. Can we steal that jean jacket, by the way?
Also, below we've got a couple of our favorite tracks from the lady, "Womankind" and "I Stand Strong." "Womankind" sounds like the type of the buttery soul you'd hear on Tru Thoughts, a la an Alice Russell vibe - super smooth and sexy. "I Stand Strong" rests upon a Dilla beat and is a song 'freshly written after a broken heart,' - the song haunting and soothing all at once.
In addition to her upcoming solo EP, Lady C and fellow dancer CoFlo Ferreira have teamed up as Social Notation. With Lady C on vocals and CoFlo on production, the duo plans to release an album together.
The wondrous and always dynamic Alice Russell joins the good folks at Yours Truly for a stripped down performance of "I'll Keep My Light In My Window." Loving the super bad violin action by Mike Simmonds here.
As many of y'all probably already know, the track is off of Alice and Quantic's collaborative album, Look Around The Corner.
How about that voice, people? Carries all by itself. We'll take that scarf of Alice's, too, please.
You've been waiting, we've been waiting, and all our patience has finally paid off - Look Around The Corner is finally here! Get a tasting of Quantic & Alice Russell's jazzy soul swank as they turn up the gloriousness in the above video for "I'd Cry."
