The famed Red Bull Music Academy will be hosting three back to back events with some New York musical legends to celebrate the application phase for this year's program. For those unfamiliar, RBMA is an international music workshop held in a different city each year. In 2011, musicians were brought to Madrid, this year the Academy will be held in New York City.

Our November Next Step Artist Spotlight goes to Chicago based production duo Tensei! Hats off, gentelmen.
Meaning 'heaven star' in Japanese, Tensei consists of producers Simple X and Midas Wells, kindred spirits of sorts, one might say. Midas from the Chicago suburbs and Simple X from the Chicago south side, the two first met circa 1998 at the dorms of Southern Illinois University during a cypher. Soon, the two were banging out tunes on whatever their limited student resources could afford. However, Tensei's journey has certainly been anything but linear: post graduation saw a "regular" job for X and a momentary complete departure from music for Midas.
Then came the serendipitous run in at a mutual friend's gig a few years ago and Tensei was born. Both committed to their crafts, Tensei does not heavily rely on samples and in fact play many musical parts themselves. Any gaps that need to be filled are done by session musicians and vocalists. An incredible amalgam of soul, house, jazz, electronic, and eastern sounds comes alive.
Below, you can find a pretty freakin awesome grab bag of Tensei treats. The first is an exclusive stream of "Space Colony," a tropical cosmic tune fit for an RPG (role playing game, for the non-video game nerds). Next is "The Ticket," a drum heavy industrial sounding track with a bit of a Latin feel. Then we move to Tensei's remix of "Robots" by the beloved Bilal, the track that actually got the talented duo signed to Plug Research. Finally, is perhaps our tastiest treat, the "Tensei Plugcast," a completely engrossing DJ mix of songs from their massive archive dubbed with live violin and trumpet no less.
These dudes are going places, y'all. Watch for it.
In early November, Georgia Anne Mudlrow crept out with a new release called Owed To Mama Rickie. And a couple days ago, a video for an uplifting song called "More & More" popped up.
Directed by our friend Brian Deka Paupaw, the sunny video features a montage of friends and loved ones accented by flares and flickers of vibrant color and designs. Laid against the red, green, and black palette of the Pan-African flag, "More & More" shows Georgia loving her African roots more and more as she reflects on the beauty of her people. The wondrous Bilal also makes an appearance.
One could definitely argue that there is no higher love than love for self - respect!
The ever astute genre bender Robert Glasper will be releasing his forthcoming album with his equally intoxicating band, the Robert Glasper Experiment. Called Black Radio, the project will release on February 28th and includes an all star list of features that frankly is making us feel a little faint.
Prepare yourself for an unparalleled mix of jazz, hip hop, R&B and rock, with appearances from Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra), KING, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Mos Def, Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Stokley Williams (Mint Condition).
Black Radio will be the first full-length album from the Grammy-nominated keyboardist’s dynamic band; saxophonist Casey Benjamin, bassist Derrick Hodge, and drummer Chris Dave have come together show after show and blown away thousands with their ridiculously wondrous performances and now to have something we can take home? We almost can't take it.

3rd 1st Impression is about taking a "first" look again, but from a brand new light, away from a wider known persona.
This collaborative mixtape features drummer Chris 'Daddy' Dave on production and Stimulus, known to most as a DJ, as an emcee. Out as a free download on September 12th, the mixtape will feature guest spots from Bilal, Renee Neufville, Stokley (of Mint Condition), Casey Benjamin and Screechy Dan. And yes, mister Dave handles all the production and Stimulus is indeed on lead rappity rap duty.
The first single from the project, "Full Grown," dropped last week and it's pretty rad. Featuring Bilal and Renee Neufville on guest vocals, Chris Dave and Stimulus seem to have banged out a solid track like it was nothing. If this is the mixtape, we're going to need to know what an album sounds like, please.
