Rejoice! Feist is returning with her first album since 2007′s The Reminder. The new album, Metals, will be out on October 4th and promises to be just as chilling as her previous works. Prepare yourself for 12 different vignettes, each highlighting a different element of the album, leading up to the release.

The album was co-produced with longtime collaborators Chilly Gonzales and Mocky, along with Valgeir Sigurðsson, who has previously worked with Bjork.

Above is a video of the album’s recording taking place and after the jump you’ll find another preview video.

Directed by Michel Gondry, Bjork’s video for “Crystalline” is certainly an experience. A spacey digital visual mash-up might be one way to describe it. Biophilia will be out on September 27th as an iPad app and will include “clickable art, games, karaoke-ready music notation and essays,” according to The Fader.

Björk Releases “Crystalline”

The first single from Björk’s forthcoming Biophilia is here! Sounding something like a lullaby in space, “Crystalline” sends you into a drowsy meditative state and then yanks you right out with its dramatic alien invasion closing. Aliens with machine guns, though. Biophilia is rumored to release on September 26th and will take the form of 10 iPad apps, one for each track. Sounds like it’s going to be one for the books, and of course, we’d expect nothing less.

GPWW 4/20/11: Worldwide Family Mixtape – Austin Peralta

This week’s show starts out with a track by the recently-deceased drummer Steve Reid, who Gilles Peterson started a foundation for on behalf of struggling musicians. The GPWW radio show moves quickly after that with some Roots, plus more great music by Morgan Zarate, Jack Soul, Riton and Hefner.

Then we get into the special mix from the latest Brainfeeder signing, a new LA-based pianist named Austin Peralta. He plays a nice variety of tunes alongside his own songs, including Bjork, John Coltrane, J Dilla, Archie Shepp and more. Gilles finishes off the show with more Coltrane (never enough ‘Trane) Sun-Ra, Bobby Hutcherson, Tortoise, Moloko and Arthur Russell.
