New Release: Potatohead People feat. Frank Nitt – Kosmichemusik EP + Free MP3

Brooklyn wax-pushers Bastard Jazz Recordings have just released an expansive new EP (and limited-edition 7″) from Canadian producers Potatohead People (aka Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical). Just in time for Valentine’s Day,  the crew has offered up a free download of the EP’s love-sick anthem ”Back To My Shit” featuring heralded Detroit rapper Frank Nitt (Frank’n'Dank, J. Dilla). The production duo’s signature deep, synth-heavy beat underscores Nitty’s honest tale of breakup and redemption. Grab the MP3 below, and steam the entire Kosmichemusik EP (which also features the soulful vocals of Claire Mortifee and wordplay of Vancouver MC Moka Only) after the jump.

New Release: DJ Jazzy Jeff & Ayah – ‘Back For More’

Canadian soul vocalist Ayah has teamed up with DJ Jazzy Jeff to release yet another project, Back For More. They call it a mixtape, we say it listens like an album – it’s dope. Oh, and it’s free?! Yeah. Jazzy brings it with some new moods in his production, while Ayah reels you in with her infectious voice, costuming her instrument to do what she pleases. If you haven’t yet been treated to the talent that is Ayah, it’s about time you get to know what you’ve been missing. Stream and download for free below.

Femi Kuti to Release Africa for Africa + Tour Dates

In a career spanning over twenty years, Femi Kuti has been able to find his own voice while preserving the memory of his father, Fela Kuti. Following his 2008 album Day By Day and ushering in a more aggressive but pointed style of music, Africa for Africa will be released on March 22nd on Knitting Factory Records. Femi’s offerings on Africa for Africa show that although an heir in the family lineage of Fela, Femi is carving out his own space in the great history of Afrobeat and African Music.  Africa for Africa aims to present Afrobeat in its rough, purest form.  After the jump, get more info and check out Femi’s upcoming North American tour dates for April and May.
