New Release: ‘Patagonia Music Collective, Volume 3′

The Patagonia Music Collective series is the brainchild of Patagonia, an environmentally conscious apparel company. One June 22, they released Volume 3 to continue their tradition of supporting grassroots environmental organizations through artist donations of exclusive tracks. The collective also added a nice touch by allowing individual musicians to choose the organization that will receive the proceeds from their track.

Like previous editions, Volume 3 includes unreleased material from both mainstay and emerging artists. The tracks are available at $.99 each or $9.99 for the entire compilation on iTunes. Patagonia also shows their good taste in music with the artist roster: featuring Best New Artist Grammy Award winner, Esperanza Spalding, as well as Daniel Bernard Roumain and Medeski Martin & Wood, amongst several others. You can sample the tracks on their site – now go out and support!

Relief for Japan

We’d be remiss not to post about the current global crisis after Friday’s severe earthquake in Japan. Music-related charities would usually be our suggestion – the Lady Gaga-designed bracelets, for example, or the auctioned items of Blink-182 and Linkin Park- but this goes well beyond the music world. And newly-formed relief efforts sometimes don’t yield the results needed.

Our thoughts are with the people affected during this time, and we urge everyone to give money to a well-established charity, where your donations will be used most effectively. The Japan Earthquake efforts from Direct Relief, AmeriCares, and International Rescue Committee are all great options.
