Definitely don't hear too much soulful Hanukkah music during the holiday season, whereas a variety of Christmas music always seems to be in abundance - so, this is refreshing. Chico Mann invited our lovely gal Alecia Chakour to lend her vocals for the warm and cozy new tune, "Light of Love." Got us dreaming of candlelight, fireplaces, and hot chocolate on this Thursday afternoon.
Also, for those unfamiliar with Alecia, please get to knowing and be sure to check her out on December 20 for a very special show. The night is going to be killer. Alecia shared with us:
"What makes this night even cooler is that the bands feature allstars from The Royal Family (Soulive, Lettuce), Daptone Records (Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Antibalas), David Byrne's band and TV On the Radio. Basically, 20 of my favorite musicians in one tiny room."

Charles Bradley has a new release out this week on Dunham Records, a sub-label of Daptone Records, the great Brooklyn-based home of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Dunham is the perfect fit for the re-discovered soul singer, whose 45 singles were relatively unappreciated in their time. After years of traveling and odd jobs, he was picked up by Daptone's Gabriel Roth, and now he's touring around the country with The Budos Band & The Menahan Street Band. His new album, No Time For Dreaming, is available in stores today. Get a free download below, and check out the video for "The World (Is Going Up In Flames)" here.
Tony Cook is another comeback story with a new release out this week: Back To Reality. Tony was the drummer of the J.B.'s, and he produced the record "On The Floor (Rock It)" which later became known as "granddaddy of house records." While funk gradually turned into disco, Cook began to produce on his own, merging genres that didn't exist yet like garage and house (hence "the granddaddy of house records" title). Stones Throw Records is releasing some of these old recordings on Back to Reality, showing the music community's cooperation between generations and genre labels. Download the single below, get the album on iTunes, and get more info about Tony Cook from Stones Throw.
IFC premiered this music video by Charles Bradley, the latest old soul singer to be rediscovered. The video was directed by Poull Brien and shot in Brooklyn on the Bed-Stuy streets where Charles Bradley was raised and in the Bushwick projects where he currently resides.
Bradley's album No Time For Dreaming will be released on January 25th on Dunham Records, an imprint of Daptone.
