We are now ready for our sixth installment of the Next Step contest. This is going to be the last one for 2011 and we are tingling with excitement about what our extraordinary community will bless us with next!

Now five months in, we’ve featured Tara Priya in July, Iman Williams in August, Tall Black Guy Productions in September, Cole Williams for October, and Tensei for November. Four spirited singers a few kick butt producers.

The winner will receive an “Artist Spotlight” feature post on the Giant Step website, and up to $1,000 in Giant Step Marketing services!

Please note that we are accepting submissions from anyone that makes music – producers, singers, instrumentalists, rappers, and bands alike are all welcome.

This month, we are accepting submissions from today until Friday, December 30th. That said, we are now open for December entries!

Next Step Artist Spotlight Entries For October & November

 

NOTE: Due to a technical mishap, contest entries for October were lost. The contest has been extended through November, and we’re encouraging everyone who submitted for October to do so again. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Next Step is a monthly contest to aimed at giving back to our thriving community of artists who keep us going! Our goal is to highlight some the freshest new musical talent, which also happens to abundant in this same community. We accept submissions from anyone that makes music – producers, singers, instrumentalists, rappers, and bands alike are all welcome.

November 17th is going to be a very special night in Los Angeles! The “Homage” series, which pays tribute to various musical greats, will salute sir Roy Ayers “for his amazing impact and contribution to hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul” and also present him with a special award on behalf of the City of Los Angeles, Roy Ayers’ birthplace and hometown!

DJ Anthony Valadez of KCRW has put together a divine Roy Ayers mix in support of the upcoming show for which you can find details below. Stream and download the mix below as well!

If you’re like us, you’re probably still enjoying the video from Mayer Hawthorne’s “The Walk” that we shared last week. Feist Releases ‘Metals’ + Stream, Tour Dates, & Contest

 

The day is finally here! After several video vignettes and a lot of squirming, we can rest easy to the awesomeness that is a new Feist album. Metals is the follow-up to her 2007 breakout, The Reminder, which earned 4 Grammy nominations.

Recorded in Big Sur, California, the sound on Metals is characteristically experiential, ranging from low rumbling and moody ambiences to brutal and intense heart-wrenchers. Take a listen to a few of the tracks below.
