New Release: Gensu Dean – ‘The CL Smooth American Me Remixes’ + Download

Dallas producer Gensu Dean is on his way to getting some well deserved shine. Having already received love from DJ Spinna, DJ Premier, and DMC (of Run DMC), the quiet giant has already worked on music for David Banner, Lord Jamar, Sadat X, CL Smooth, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Below, we have a special treat for you. A while back, Gensu was commissioned to work on a remix project for CL Smooth that was never released. This week the project called The CL Smooth American Me Remixes was released as a free download. The music knocks and glides, slinks and grooves, and creates a beautiful soundscape easy on the ears.

Video: A.Dd+ – “Under” + Free Download

The moody video for “Under” by Dallas based hip-hop duo A.Dd+ features rapper Dustin Cavazos and producer Picnic Tyme (of the Cannabinoids crew with Erykah Badu).

The piano-driven beat featuring Little Dragon’s “Twice” aids heavily in creating a cozy, nostalgic feel to the track. It can be quite the feat to live up to samples with such strong recognition and memories already attached to them, so we have to give it up to A.Dd+ for really carrying the song and making it their own.

Erykah Gets Buck Naked for “Window Seat” Video

[Update: Universal Motown has pulled the video from Youtube. Watch it HERE instead.]

This weekend, Erykah Badu released a video for “Window Seat.” We think you’ll like it. Click over to @fatbellybella to join the discussion about the video where Erykah walks down the streets of Dallas and strips off all of her clothes. Directed by Coodie and Chike, the video shouts out to the Brooklyn indie rockers Matt & Kim for their similarly themed video.

The video takes place in the location where JFK was assassinated, starts with the radio broadcast, and the ending reveals more meaning when Erykah drops at the sound of a gunshot, in the exact spot where Kennedy was shot. CNN sums it up as “The R&B singer said she was making a statement against “groupthink,” which she tweeted was an “unwritten rule” that “i will not express my true opinion if it opposes those i love and fear.” More tweets from the video shoot include “they were yelling, ‘THIS IS A PUBLIC PLACE : YOU OUGHTA BE ASHAMED : PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON : DAMN GIRL! etc,” and “the people caught in the shot were trying hard to ignore me.” She also said that when the camera stopped, they ran.

New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh comes out tomorrow.
