New Track: The Mynabirds – “Generals” + MP3

Fronted by singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn, The Mynabirds are a Nebraska based band with enough attitude for the whole town. On the cusp of releasing their sophomore album, Generals on June 5th, The Mynabirds have released their title track to show you exactly how much business they mean.

Aptly naming the album after a Richard Avedon photo entitled “Generals of the Daughters of the American Revolution,” Generals is a concept album, which Burhenn aims to use as a positive vehicle to exercise her political frustration. Sonically, you can look out for tinges of PJ Harvey, Nina Simone, and David Bowie, with percussion heavy tunes borrowing from hip hop and African rhythms, resulting in a soulful brand of rock reminiscent of The Kills.

Take a listen to the track below and holler at the widget for your free download!

The Kids Are All Right: Original Soundtrack featuring MGMT, Little Dragon, Quadron, Ge-ology ft. Yukimi Nagano & more

The soundtrack for the critically acclaimed film, The Kids Are All Right, includes tracks from MGMT, Little Dragon, Quadron, Ge-ology ft. Yukimi Nagano, Betty Wright, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, CSS, and more. It accompanies a story about two teenaged children conceived by donor insemination who seek out their birth father and introduce him into the family life that their two mothers have built for them. Once the donor is found, the household will never be the same, as family ties are defined, re-defined, and then re-re-defined.

Focus Features and Gilbert Films present The Kids Are All Right, the most talked-about movie at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, in select theaters on July 9, starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, and Mark Ruffalo and directed by Lisa Cholodenko.

Introducing Reni Lane

lead21-year-old Reni Lane, whose edgy beauty belies her geekier side, is about to turn some heads in the music scene.

Tall and radiant, Reni’s charisma attracts the young, not so young, and apparently, legendary photographers. True story: Reni Lane goes to see a Verve concert. Wanting to soak up the magnificence that is The Verve from center stage, Reni bypasses her seat and cozies up into the front row. Turns out the seat belongs to Mick Rock, who, upon seeing Reni, has a quick jolt of Deja Vu: Reni reminded him of a young David Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tour. The two immediately hit it off, Mick offers to photograph Reni, and the rest is rock history.

In 2007, she played the famous Melkweg in Amsterdam with her band. Upon returning to the states, Reni was officially “discovered” by MTV talent executives and featured in their First Ladies of Rock campaign, sponsored by Virgin Mobile. Still a full-time student at Columbia — maybe NYLON Magazine said it best when they wrote, “Some people seem to exist just to make the rest of us look like slackers. Reni Lane is one of them.”

Reni Lane’s Ready is out soon on Custard / Universal Motown.  Stream the first single, “Place For Us” on her MySpace.
