Studies of Tom Zé: Explaining Things So I Can Confuse You

Tom Zé
is one of the most influential Brazilian artists of the century with a very innovative and experimental style combining Brazilian folk music with samba and even American rock.  In celebration of Tom having been their inaugural artist to the Luaka Bop label, they are releasing a box set, Studies of Tom Zé: Explaining Things So I Can Confuse You, which will be available October 5th.

Tom Zé got a lucky break thanks to Luaka Bop’s founder, David Byrne: “In the mid 1980′s David Byrne pulled a Tom Zé album out of the samba section of a Rio de Janeiro record store. This purchase started a 25-year-long chain of events that has resulted in this box set…  Studies of Tom Zé: Explaining Things So I Can Confuse You collects for the first time Tom Zé’s ‘study’ records- the visionary Brazilian artist’s singular take on samba, pagode, and bossa nova. A retrospective nearly fifty years in the making.”

The box set includes 4 vinyl records, a bonus CD, an essay about Tom Zé by Brazilian scholar Christopher Dunn, as well as a key to receive all vinyl content as a digital download.
