BIGGAsounds presents the subterranean heroes of UK-Philly-Brooklyn soul, house and nu-jazz. Living legends Caron Wheeler (Soul II Soul), Monique Bingham and The BIGGA Sextet, King Britt, DJ Spinna and Rich Medina will take over Santos Party House on Thursday, May 26th, in a very special line up.
Brooklyn’s own DJ Center hooked up with DJ Spinna to remix “In A Song” featuring Middle Child, a track off the album Everything In Time. With an anthem-like chorus and thumping groove, “In A Song” is packed with bump and boogie, warmth and soul – a natural choice for DJs, dance floors and lovers of modern soul music with an instant vintage feel. DJ Spinna needs no introduction, and he adds his own style to the track here in the “Back from the Future Remix.”
After the jump, watch a video about the making of the remix. Thanks to Push the Fader, who has a new blog up and running, so check that out too!
DJ Spinna & BBE Soundsytem present the 5th volume in the first legitimate and longest running rare groove mix tape series in the world. Strange Games & Funky Things Volume 5 is described by Gilles Peterson as the best ever rare groove compilation series of all time.
This series, which was conceived by BBE founder Peter Adarkwah in the summer of 1997, compiles the best of 70′s soul, 80′s rare groove, and 90′s mass market hip hop. The fifth volume is mixed by one of the best of all beat masters, DJ Spinna. It is a much more worldy mix than the other volumes, featuring a wide variety of artists from the multi-platinum selling War to Sugar Hill Records’ founder, Sylvia. The compilation even includes world music underground icons like C.K. Mann and Francisco Aguabella.
Disc One (of two) of Strange Games & Funky Things Volume 5, mixed by DJ Spinna. Grab yourself a copy of the full compilation for the second, unmixed half.
In case you didn’t know, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one of our favorite holidays. We celebrated in true Giant Step style by donating some of our proceeds to Doctors Without Borders for their relief work in Haiti. DJ Spinna, and DJ Rich Medina were there to set the perfect groove. Thank you to all who came out and had a grand old time with us.
In light of Haiti’s recent plight, Giant Step is contributing a portion of the proceeds from its 6th Annual MLK, Jr. Tribute at Cielo this Sunday, Jan. 17, to Doctors Without Borders – an organization dedicating emergency medical response to the country. Help spread the word about their efforts and keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts this weekend.
