J Rocc (of The Beat Junkies fame and Stones Throw family) is dropping hot mixes all over, which is nothing new, but now it’s all about his new album Some Cold Rock Stuf. Above is a great video for “Stay Fresh,” shot by Mayer Hawthorne on his iPhone and edited on the flight back to LA. (budget? what’s a budget?) Below, grab another track from the album for download, “Play This Too” and check out J Rocc’s special with Benji B on BBC’s Radio1.

And if you’re the kinda fan that loves rare merch, check here to get even more J Rocc goodies, including ‘mystery discs’ and posters of the artwork by Jeff Jank, the artist responsible for the indie hip-hop label’s distinctive look.

Jessie J‘s album Who You Are was released on Universal Republic this week, and unsurprisingly it rose to the top of the charts. You may already know that we jumped on the Jessie wagon early and we’re proud; see The Boombox Series Part 1 – “Who You Are” and Part 2 – “Price Tag”. A few days after we shot The Boombox Series with Arcade 44, her video for “Do It Like A Dude” came out and she blew up. By popular demand, her release date was moved up to this week. Stomp stomp she arrived!

Rumer Video – “Slow”+ “Long Long Day” MP3

Maybe you haven’t heard of Rumer until now, but we think she’s an artist that’s going to get a lot of attention in the US. Formerly of the indie-folk band La Honda, her solo project showcases her voice, which has been described as eerily similar to the voice of Karen Carpenter. The first single, “Slow,” from her debut album, Seasons of My Soul, jumped out from MySpace enough to create a healthy buzz. Facebook helped launch the career of Rumer too, as her manager found her by posting the question: “Who is the most underrated person you know?” When five separate people replied with “Rumer,” record labels and management companies started chasing her.

If you like the sound, check out her other videos on Youtube, they’re lovely. Grab a free download of another single, “Long Long Day,” from her Official Site.
