Magnetic Man – “Perfect Stranger” ft Katy B Video + New Release

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/93AU5IkvDPY" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

The big name in UK dubstep at the moment is Magnetic Man, particularly known for the hit featuring Katy B, “Perfect Stranger.” The US debut of their self-titled album was released digitally in April but the physical copies will be out next week on the 10th. Magnetic Man’s Benga, Skream and Artwork are three producers/DJ’s with serious dubstep credentials who met over a love of pulverizing beats at the now-defunct mecca of the genre, Big Apple Records. Together, Magnetic Man infuses the dubstep landscape with melodic pop grooves that play counterpoint to hyped-up synth and fat bass lines that apply pressure like silky-scaled boa constrictors.

You can stream Magnetic Man in its entirety at Popmatters or In Your Speakers.

Global Compilation from the House of Gilles: Brownswood Electr*c

The guys from Brownswood have put together a new compilation album; Brownswood Electr*c will be available June 28th. In the international spirit of the World Cup season (shout out to the USA and England’s move to the next round), it features some of today’s most promising electronic artists from all over the globe, ranging from Estonia and Norway to Iceland. The Brownswood Electr*c album commemorates the music that occupies the grey areas, the sounds that blur the boundaries between so-called hip-hop, house, techno, and dubstep. This album, like every release, has the stamp of approval from Brownswood label owner and BBC Radio show host, Gilles Peterson. A sample of the tracks are streaming in the video above, and you can see the full track list after the jump.

Tricky’s Knowle West Boy Remixed by South Rakkas Crew

Print
Tricky Meets South Rakkas Crew comes out today, a version excursion of ten tracks from Tricky‘s Knowle West Boy, where electro-dancehall collides with Tricky’s whispering ‘sprechgesang’ lyrical style to create a dancehall filler, radio killer, soundtrack thriller that seems to touch on all the happening urban sounds from around the globe. We’re talking hip-hop, reggae and rock inna dubstep dancehall style that’s left-of-center pop for the 21st century. As Tricky says: “We come in peace and leave you in pieces.”
