Frogg EP: “Bitch” Remixes + MP3

Frogg is one third homegrown UK talent and London vocalist Mills, who brings her eclectic music foundation, which lies squarely between guitar songwriting and drum ‘n bass. Fusing rap with a raw, English-witted tongue and vocals that harness an individual RnB flava, Mills crosses the British Isles to the open and free music lights of Berlin.

The complementing two thirds of the group are homegrown Berlin talents, who draw on dubby electronic grooves and strong beats, without forgetting the importance of melody. Mo Delgado (Seeed), the production hub of Frogg, brings his earthy and playfully diverse approach, creating a sound that is simply fresh. Luke 4000 (Seeed) is the supporting power, bringing things together and enforcing the onstage funk.

The Berlin-based band released their debut album Blink Blink worldwide in September 2009 under BMG Rights Management. Blink Blink demonstrates Frogg’s open perspective on music genres. The band’s energetic live shows have so far enjoyed live highlights such as support slots for De La Soul & Miss Platnum.

On the heals of their SXSW showcase, Seher sits down with Beats Antique. Hailing from Oakland, CA, Beats Antique is a force to be reckoned with.  Seriously.  Ask them to describe their music and you will get about sixteen genres, descriptors, and world regions.  Wanna bet?  Try this:

“live electronica and world roots music”

“electro-acoustic gypsy break beat”

“…music of the Middle East, eastern Europe, north Africa and traditional jazz with big bass music”

“orchestral gypsy music with the styles of hip-hop, brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep”

They do not play.

Exclusive Interview & EP Premiere: Rehes Gets Down With Drummer/Producer Daru Jones

Just on the heels of countless showcases at SXSW (he was the drummer for everybody and their mama), Brooklyn-based drummer and producer Daru Jones was recently out in San Francisco for a Camp Lo and Digable Planets show. In addition to breaking several drumsticks and eating up all the fish tacos the Bay had to offer, Daru sat down with me on a stoop in the Mission District to talk a bit about keepin it hip-hop and church all at the same time.

Following the video, treat yourself to an exclusive Giant Step premiere: a free download of Daru’s promo EP entitled “So Good” featuring Swedish soul singer Kissey Asplund. The project is part of a monthly series Daru is doing to get the word out about what he calls “RUSIC” music (think soul-hop).

“My mission was to challenge myself by releasing one RUSIC project per month, to showcase indie artists in coordination with the RUSIC sound. Each project has a different theme in order to showcase my diversity, and convey a message, regardless of the form or genre.” — Daru Jones
