Janelle Monáe’s The ArchAndroid: Number One of 2010

We’ve truly enjoyed watching the rise of Janelle Monáe this year, whose album ArchAndroid places in just about every single ‘Best of 2010′ music list. Her success may be due to her unclassifiable space funk music, or her stage presence, or her concept of the Android in the Cybertronic Purgatory, or the genuine groundswell of support around her throughout the past two years; either way we’re glad to see her with the critical acclaim she deserves:

“a heavenly, spectacular debut” - ABC News (#1 Album)

“Janelle Monáe’s The ArchAndroid proves she’s the whole package.” -Popmatters (#1 Album)

“No other album this year seems so alive with possibility. Monáe is young and fearless enough to try anything, gifted enough to pull almost all of it off, and large-hearted enough to make it feel like a communal experience: Us rather than Me. She may yet surpass it – let’s hope so – but for now, this is one hell of a show.”- Guardian UK (#1 Album)

AOL Review: Aloe Blacc in Miami for Art Basel 2010

Check out AOL’s review of our Art Basel event this weekend: Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme closed 2010′s Miami Art Week with a powerful finale, performing the hit “I Need A Dollar” and stylized “partial covers” of all kinds of classics ranging from Al Green to Green Day.

“Since Blacc’s album Good Things released in September, he’s been compared over and over again to the likes of Marvin Gaye. Yet he remains humble and genuine in both his lyrics and his character. … His ability to mix honest social and political observations with feel good music is gaining him both respect and popularity as nostalgia from the early ’70s sets in.”

Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme, plus Maya Jupiter, The Stepkids, and DJ $mall ¢hange – November 18

Giant Step and (Le) Poisson Rouge are proud to present Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme with special guests Maya Jupiter, The Stepkids, and DJ $mall ¢hange on Thursday, November 18th, at (Le) Poisson Rouge. If you were there to catch Mr. Blacc at our Summerstage performance this past Summer, then you should already know this is not a show to miss. If an Aloe performance is new to you, then check out this video of him performing “Loving you is killing me” live in studio. There will be horns, there will be bass, there will be soul.
