The soulfully divine I, Ced recently got down with the genius sir Om’Mas Keith at the Converse Rubbertracks studios to cook up some magical sounds. Just from the sounds of this session, we can already tell something tremendous is around the corner – and we cannot wait! Shout to our homie Fresh Daily for sharing this with us!

New Release: Nicholas Ryan Gant – ‘Promises’

Nicholas Ryan Gant has been one of our favorite modern soul vocalists for a minute now – there is just something about the vibration of his voice that is unlike anyone else. So it’s no surprise when we say that we are completely and utterly beside ourselves now that he’s released his first solo album! Promises dropped today and is fourteen tracks of yummy mellow soul snacks.

“Over Us/Convo” definitely stands out as our favorite track and the Fresh Daily feature on the title track is rather tickling as well.

Video: Afta-1 – “HeyeLAND” ft. Nikko Gray

So, uh – guys. We’ve been super duper holding out on y’all. There’s this secret invite only party we’ve been going to for a few months in Jersey (yeah, Jersey) that is all kinds of amazing. Basically, a talented photographer/videographer by the name of Tone (that many New York heads may be familiar with) started a live music series at his loft featuring upcoming talent called Live At The Loft.

For those unable to snag an invite, we’re going to start sharing some of our favorite videos with you. You’ll definitely want to check out the Live At The Loft site for previous performances, which include Chico Mann, Muhsinah, Jesse Boykins III, Full Crate and Mar, Cubic Zirconia, Melo X, and Fresh Daily. Yep. Thank us later.

Without further ado, here’s one of our favorite recent performances featuring Los Angeles’ Afta-1. The gorgeous video perfectly captured the mellow mood and just dropped last night! This is taking us back and making us relive the sexiness in a whole new way. Very much awesome.

Giant Step Resident 49: J. Cole, Big Sean, Fresh Daily & Jesse Boykins III

tomorrow-1-600x5961By Mawuse Ziegbe

Lately, some new artists have hit the interwebs who are down right addictive and, if all goes well, they will be giving fans the shakes on a massive level. J. Cole’s “A Dollar and A Dream II” affixes graceful metaphors about the throes of quarter-life insecurity to a generous piano melody that makes a clean break from the ever-ubiquitous synth-hop. Jay-Z scooped the North Carolina MC as the first signee to his newly-formed Roc Nation imprint; a move that makes sense since Cole has the same low-key cleverness that has rendered Hov a mega-bajillionaire. He’s young so his mixtape The Warm Up has the requisite knuckle-headed sneaker and swagger rhymes. But the clean production has the classic brooding sensibility of jazz-sampled hip hop from Slum Village and Little Brother. Tracks like “I Get Up” and “Losing My Balance” are that good good.
