Chances are you don't know who Khari Mateen is, but we've known this cat since he was a newbie to The Roots crew family at just 18 years old. Some may recognize Khari as the bassist from his current band, Elevator Fight with the illustrious Zoe Kravitz. Others may have heard his production work on The Roots' "Game Theory," "Clock With No Hands," nearly half of How I Got Over, and finally, on the most recent leak with The Roots and Big K.R.I.T., "Make My."
So, really - you already know Khari's music. Late last month, Khari gave the world an introduction to his work as a solo artist on his Khari EP. The project features Khari's production and also puts his vocal talents on front and center. The music is impressively (but not surprisingly) diverse with R&B, funk, rock, jazz, downtempo, classical, electronic, and hip hop influences. Do yourself a favor a get put on - ASAP. And heads up that half of the EP tracks are actually free downloads, including one of our favorite tracks, "Mother."
