Hip-hop funk duo and Giant Step favorites Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins (aka Declaime) were featured in NPR’s Song of the Day for “Connect Game,” a track from their recent LP SomeOthaShip. Georgia has recently been busy releasing the solo album Ocotea, under her moniker Jyoti, through their label SomeOthaShip Connect. Check out the full NPR article and stream “Connect Game” here.
A Giant Step favorite, Jyoti (aka Georgia Anne Muldrow) will perform live tomorrow in Los Angeles at Amoeba Music Hollywood with Declaime. You saw our exclusive interview with Jyoti last week, and her new album Ocotea drops tomorrow on SomeOthaShip Connect. Don’t miss the artist Mos Def calls “incredible.. like Flack, Nina Simone, Ella, she’s something else. She’s like religion.”
We are excited for the release of Jyoti (aka Georgia Anne Muldrow)’s new album, Ocotea, which is scheduled to drop June 15, 2010 on SomeOthaShip Connect. We got the chance to sit down with this singer, songwriter, and producer extraordinaire and get the scoop on her artistry, spirituality, and experience as a new mom.
What’s your favorite jazz album ever and why?
it’s really hard for me to pick just one record that i love the most, what i tend to dig are ones that are drenched in the pursuit of higher consciousness, or are heavily rooted in the blackness of music…

Darryl Moore recreates R&B with soul, gospel, and a taste of hip-hop meant to feed the soul. Born in Southern, CA, Moore has been performing his whole life, inspiring with his pipes wherever he goes. A childhood friend of Declaime (aka Dudley Perkins), Moore was a no-brainer when the newly formed SomeOthaShip Connect label began courting talent. SomeOthaShip Connect is Georgia Anne Muldrow’s record label, on which she will be releasing the new album Ocotea under Muldrow’s moniker, Jyoti. Declaime, himself known for his soul and gospel influenced music has done his fledgling label (and the world) a great service by delivering this amazing set to the public.
Produced by Ivan Johnson, Moore’s album Where I’m At is out now via SomeOthaShip Connect label, along with the single release, Dream Girl. “Dream Girl” is reminiscent of the great soul songs of the 1970s with smoky organs and horns caressing Moore’s well-seasoned voice.
