Gilles Peterson Presents: Worldwide 2xCD + MP3

The tagline for this new double-disc compilation, out on BBE Records October 11th, Gilles Peterson Worldwide is “A Celebration of His Syndicated Radio Show.” It’s filled with some of Gilles Peterson‘s biggest radio successes: the acts he broke on BBC1, the bands he catapulted to cult status, the songs he made into international sensations, and basically many of the milestones from the last ten years of funk, soul and jazz music.

In fact, we get giddy every Thursday when we have the exclusive stream to share with you. Check out past shows of the  highly-influential 2-hour broadcast. [GPWW on Giant Step]

Gilles’ selections throughout the years have influenced all of us, if not the whole world. He’s been on a massive quest ‘for the perfect beat,’ and thanks to this show, we’re constantly updated on the status of the noble, necessary mission.

Grab the download and after the jump, watch some of our favorite videos of tracks featured on the compilation.

GPWW 9/6/10: Summer Jazz Mix

Happy Thursday, the day of the week in which we take 2 hours minimum to enjoy the classic Gilles Peterson World Wide radio show. This week Gilles is really flexing his jazz wax: nothing but vinyl, nothing but jazz with a slight lean towards Latin. These are choice selections from the famously diverse Brownswood vinyl collection, literally boasting titles from around the world. The show jumps around from known classics to rarities, but the tracklist includes artists such as Eddie Jefferson, (pictured above), Sonny Red, Grachan Moncur III, Sam Rivers, Earl Rodney, Sun Ra, Bob Dorough and more.

GPWW 8/9/10: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble Feature

Despite the bad weather which kept us off the rooftop, we were very grateful for Gilles Petersons secret performance at NYC Soho House on Sunday; he played a killer set and naturally got the crowd moving. If you too want to be included in the hippest swanky events, always featuring quality music, follow our tweets for exclusive event entrances, plus crafty art and vinyl contests.

This week on GPWW, Gilles Peterson features the words and sounds of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Their interview reveals a lot about the group: from their introduction to brass instruments and what they’ve been through to what’s next for them as a band. The first part of the show is mostly old favorites interspersed with brand new music from artists like Nia Andrews and Marcos Valle.

GPWW 7/12/10: Worldwide Family Mixtape – Rockwell

This week, Gilles Peterson Worldwide features North London DJ and producer Rockwell. In classic GPWW style, Gilles also brings it with a wide ranging mix of music from around the world, including the up-and-coming jazz singer Gregory Porter who we’ve been going on about, Anito O Day, P.E. Hewitt Jazz Ensemble, and a dub remix of a Michael Jackson‘s “La La Means I Love You.” The later part of the show features a mix by Rockwell, including some of his originals and some remixes. This might be the first GPWW show ever to feature a Cash Money Record (but it’s a Rockwell remix of course).
