In 2001 we celebrated our 10th anniversary in style! Central Park Summerstage was the location and the line up was historic. Femi Kuti in full flight, a rare US appearance from Lamb, plus performances from Mark Anthony Jones and Tamango. DJs that day were Gilles Peterson and Ron Trent.
Gilles Peterson is back for another episode of the Worldwide Show. This week’s show features the sounds of Nile Rogers and Cosmin TRG. Rogers, a legend in his own right, discusses his book and shares insight about his musical experiences and inspirations. Following Nile, Cosmin proceeds to take us on an audible journey down the proverbial rabbit hole, exploring the depths of space and sound.
As posted last week, Gilles won’t be with Radio 1 any longer. However, Worldwide will continue to be championed on Giant Step. Stay tuned for next week’s show!

This week, a very special venue in the hearts of many (including ours) closed its doors for good. The Florida Room in the basement of Delano Hotel in South Beach Florida was a Lenny Kravitz designed venue with the feel of a classic old school night club.
Within its first year of opening, Giant Step starting doing events at The Florida Room and the list became pretty impressive. Many of our events were Miami debuts featuring great artists such as Jose James, Janelle Monae, Melanie Fiona, and Jazmine Sullivan, to name a few.
After the jump, also find videos from De La Soul, The Roots, and Janelle Monae, all doing their thing at a venue that will be greatly missed.
Here’s a partial list of some of our great nights:
June 2008 – Janelle Monae (Miami Debut)
Sept 2008 – Jazmine Sullivan (Miami Debut)
Oct 2008 – Nikka Costa
NYE 2008 – The Roots and Janelle Monae
Jan 2009 – The Florida Room 1st anniversary with De La Soul
WMC 2009 – Pete Rock, Benji B, Wale, Questlove, Melanie Fiona, Taylor McFerrin
NYE 2009 – Common
WMC 2010 – Gilles Peterson and Questlove
So to all our friends in Miami and of course the great staff of this special venue that had the best cocktails in the world – we salute you and all the good times.
It was only in September that we found ourselves celebrating Gilles Peterson’s very first legal radio show on BBC Radio 1. Word is that Gilles’ Worldwide show has now been taken off BBC Radio 1 after 13 years. We have started a Facebook page to get him back on – please spread the word far and wide. Gilles cannot go!
As usual Gilles Peterson is up to his typical antics with the, Worldwide Show, showcasing flawless mixes and stellar track selection. This weeks show features sounds from DJ’s Rainer Truby and Bangatang. In a similar fashion, these lads both have a keen sense of proper songs and do a fantastic job at mixing them well.
