Blue Note Reissues Six Classic Jazz Albums in Hi-Def Audio

 

Blue Note this week released six classic jazz albums in high definition audio. Digitally remastered for the first time, these albums will be available on HDtracks for an unparalleled listening experience. All albums will come packaged with original liner notes, extra photos, and newly written essays. Folks can look forward to more reissues coming soon, but in the meantime, check below for the stellar works that have been made available this week:

NYC: International Jazz Day Sunset Concert @ United Nations General Assembly Hall – April 30

Happy International Jazz Day, friends! The holiday started off with a launch concert at UNESCO HQ in Paris on April 27 (view above) and a sunrise concert today from Congo Square in New Orleans. We are beyond enthused to share that the conclusion of these worldwide events will be held in New York City!

The epic sunset concert will be tonight, April 30, at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in NYC with George Duke serving as Musical Director. The co-hosts of the event will include Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Quincy Jones. The event will be streamed live.

The Beast & Nnenna Freelon’s “Freedom Part 2″ Video off New Album Freedom Suite

Here is the first video from Freedom Suite, the new project by Nnenna Freelon and The Beast hosted by 9th Wonder, to be posted for free download soon on Okayplayer‘s new jazz-inspired channel The Revivalist. Featured artists on this project of music & words include Phonte, YahZarah, Darien Brockington, Kooley High, Geechi SuedeBranford Marsalis, Amiri Baraka, Questlove, Herbie Hancock, Angela Davis and more.

Directed by Napoleon Wright II, the “Freedom Part 2″ video is a documentary-style short film, which follows The Beast as they volunteer and perform at a Durham-based non profit organization called SEEDS. All proceeds from the performance were donated to SEEDS, an organization which teaches inner-city youth how to plant, grow, harvest and sell crops in their own communities.
