New Release: Jack Davey – ‘L0-F! D’Lux’

We’ve been following the build up to this Jack Davey release for a minute now, which has included a couple of our favorite tracks, “Eye Can See” and “Howl At The Moon.” The electro-soul front woman notoriously ripped stages and hearts with her work as the front woman of J*Davey, and just the same, she evokes powerful emotion in this new lo-fi rock project.

Recorded in the closet of her Los Angeles home, Jack took her creative endeavors entirely into her own hands after giving birth to her first child in 2011. L0-F! D’Lux is the culmination of the previously released sides A and B along with three bonus tracks and a digi-book. Side A included Jack completely solo with her drum machine, self-taught guitar chops, and her voice, while Side B introduced production collaboration from her boyfriend Joey Strat of The Knux.

With today’s release of L0-F! SIDE B, Jack Davey also releases a psychedelic video for “Like That” complete with ransom-esque magazine cutouts. Foot tapping, head spinning lo-fi rock addiction right here. If you remember the grungy production of SIDE A, you’ll appreciate the converse to the story with the “full production & instrumentation” thanks to Joey Strat of The Knux.

You can preview SIDE B on the Audible Treats Soundcloud.

An introspective Jack Davey and her guitar let us into Jack’s bedroom with the latest video from her L0-F! (Side A) project. “Eye Can See” tells the story of a reflecting on a life path and recognizing the close of a chapter through hazy, jittery black and white images. Though a simple and short track, the way she sings always seems to hit somewhere deep.

New Release: Jack Davey – ‘L0-F! (Side A)’

Channeling her “kindred spirit” Iggy Pop, Jack Davey this week released her bluesy rock project entitled L0-F! (Side A). Inspired by the new sounds in her head following the birth of her baby boy, Jack recorded the entire album amidst this transition:

“I literally recorded every song in the walk-in closet in my Koreatown apartment during the few moments when my newborn baby was asleep…I was hearing a raw & gritty rock sound in my head & knew that I would have to create it myself in order to get exactly what I was imagining.”

Interestingly, the project started off as one long song with five parts. We’ve got to appreciate the raw organic artistry behind this project. The sounds are drenched in feeling with a welcome stripped down, intimate feel. The kind of music that makes you feel all fuzzy and inspired at the same time. Listen below!

Video: Jack Davey – “Howl At The Moon”

It wasn’t too long ago that we saw Jack Davey become Betty Davis incarnate with her new bad ass “Howl At The Moon” track that we oh so loved. And then today, when we found that there are now accompanying visuals from the lady that always gives us an eyeball party, how can we not squeal like schoolgirls?!

And indeed, our lady knows how to work it well even in the simplest of videos. Great treatment and taste, per usual.

The song is part of a 3-part series of EPs. L0-F! Side A, is the grittier of the bunch, showing “a girl, her shitty guitar, and introspective songwriting,” as Jack explains it – that project will be released on October 2. L0-F! Side B, will include more sophisticated instrumentation and production by Joey Strat of The Knux (out November 6). Finally, on December 11, a deluxe version with both sides and three bonus tracks will be released.

Cannot wait.
