New Video for Janelle Monáe’s “Cold War”

Janelle Monáe, the always innovative songwriter and singer, has released a new video for her song off of The ArchAndroid, “Cold War.” It features a close up, sometimes out of focus image of Monáe lip syncing the entire song in not just one take, but in her first take. It’s an emotionally charged experience straight from the black box auditorium at the Palace of the Dogs insane asylum.

GPWW 6/7/10: Loads of New Music

Gilles Peterson had a mix for this one, but he decided to give us ‘pure music’ instead. Meklit Hadero (pictured) contributes with her beautiful version of the classic “Feelin’ Good.” And while Gilles is firmly stuck in World Cup mode, he’s also living in Wondaland with Janelle Monáe, like most of us. This week also features another Giant Step favorite – Andreya Triana of Ninja Tune – plus a Water Color track from the Now-Again/Jazzman compilation California Funk, and artists like Orgone, Carlos Y Gaby, Garrincha, Elmor Judd, Sergio Mendes and more.
