Man. We’ve been addicted to Maimouna Youssef’s voice since we heard her at a random show at the Grapevine in Philly (which has since shutdown) circa 2004. Folks may also be familiar with her from The Roots “It Don’t Feel Right” track.

So excited to see that she is finally releasing some solo material. Check out the bohemian beauty in her very R&B bedtime tune, “I Got A Man,” which starts off with some gorgeous scatting reminiscent of a pre-mainstream Jazmine Sullivan. So looking forward to more.

Jazmine Sullivan Single “Take Over You” + MP3

Jazmine Sullivan is often recognizable by her love fueled temper-tantrum lyrics: throwing bricks through windows, giving her man a 10 second countdown to run for his life, or just loudly expressing some ‘You-did-me-wrong’ anger. So we’re thrilled to see this other side of Jazmine, the loving side, who’s gonna remind her man exactly why he puts up with her moods. [via Okayplayer via SoulBounce]

Jazmine Sullivan – “I’m Not A Robot” MP3

While we were celebrating the season, sipping on eggnog and stomping around in the famous NYC mud-slush, one of our favorite artists created a little Twitter scare. Unfounded rumors about Jazmine Sullivan taking a break from music were circulating but she returned today with “I’m Not A Robot” and a feature with Eminem on the song ”Cocaine.” [MP3 ] Here is proof that Jazmine is on fire and she’s not going away anytime soon.

Jazmine Sullivan Releases Love Me Back

Seven time Grammy-nominee, 23-year-old Philadelphia native Jazmine Sullivan delivers beyond expectations on her new album, Love Me Back – a vibrant, musically diverse collection that sets soulful R&B melodies to inventive, hip-hop-inspired beats. Her 2008 debut album Fearless bowed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and spawned three Top 10 singles.

Love Me Back is a rich showcase for Sullivan’s powerhouse vocals and unique storytelling gifts on songs like “Redemption,” “Good Enough,” the Missy Elliott-produced “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles),” and “Don’t Make Me Wait,” which boasts an ’80s-style rhythmic backdrop that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Prince album. Once again, Sullivan co-wrote every song, collaborating with her early champions Missy Elliott and Salaam Remi, as well as Ne-Yo, Toby Gad, Chuck Harmony, No-ID, Anthony Bell, and Cainon Lamb, who bring out the best in this self-assured performer whom Vibe has called “every inch the soul star.”
