If only there were more info to accompany this track... all we know is that "Vicadin" is produced by Flying Lotus, and it may be a single from an upcoming follow-up to Jose James' Black Magic. Jose just put this up on his Soundcloud account without much explanation, but we're not complaining. Bonus Jose James download after the jump...
Tomorrow, December 3rd, Giant Step Presents José James; plus TK Wonder & Ben Perowsky's Moodswing Orchestra, and DJ GE-OLOGY in a very rare Brooklyn appearance at Littlefield. According to José James this is going to be the very last performance of the Blackmagic concert series. That's right folks, the very last one! So make sure you grab your tickets in advance to avoid long lines at the door.
"This project is very close to my heart. It's a tribute to not only the greats like Marvin Gaye and Leon Ware, but to our contemporary giants like Flying Lotus and Benga. I've toured Blackmagic in 30 countries this year and worked with an amazing group of artists and producers on the album - Gilles Peterson, Flying Lotus, Moodymann, Taylor McFerrin, DJ Mitsu the Beats, Richard Spaven, and many more. From Paris to Sao Paolo, people have showed us mad love! How fitting that the final show is in New York, the place where I got my first Lotus beat labeled "Blackmagic" and opened the door to making the record. This is going to be a night to remember." - José James
The line up for our upcoming event with José James on Friday, December 3, at Littlefield is finally complete. Joining him on the bill will be the glam-rock poet TK Wonder and Ben Perowsky's Moodswing Orchestra, both of whom joined us this past Summer at our annual Summerstage show. On the 1s and 2s will be our friend DJ GE-OLOGY helping guide us through the night. Advance tickets are on sale now so make sure you get yours today.
There is a new wave of jazz musicians taking over the scene with the kind of vitality, creativity and energy that only youth can bring to such an esteemed tradition. José James is among those musicians making waves across the world and he has been a favorite of ours since our Brownswood Sessions days. Giant Step is excited to be bringing José James for a special evening at Littlefield in Brooklyn, NY on Friday, December 3rd. Always taking on new challenges, José will be giving a Billy Strayhorn two-night tribute concert this weekend at the Lincoln Center under the direction of Wynton Marsalis that already has New York buzzing. Read what Time Out New York has to say about it here.
After giving an amazing performance last week in Boston at the beautiful Woodward at Ames, José James zipped back to New York City to make an appearance later that week at the Lincoln Center. Along with Robert Glasper and Bilal on the bill these gentlemen thrilled the audience and made very clear, just how unclear the line between jazz and soul can be. Check out what the New York Times had to say about him, and about the re-emergence of jazz in the mainstream.
