In February of this year, The Foreign Exchange invited 40 friends and supporters for a private acoustic show in Durham. Capturing the evening on both audio and video, the duo is releasing the material as a CD/DVD digipak on June 28th entitled Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange. Above, you’ll find a video of the jazzy “Laughing at Your Plans” laced with nothing but the finest from Phonte’s clever songwriting. And there’s more. A few months back on Twitter, Phonte was exclaiming his adoration for KING, the soulful female trio now under the wing of Prince (yes, that Prince). Now, The Foreign Exchange has a track out with them! Below you can stream and download “All the Kisses” featuring Paris and Amber of KING on supporting vocals. Win.

Spotlight: KING – The Story

Successful blending of the retro and progressive is not easy. More than a handful of projects trying to accomplish this feat circulate the internet everyday, but only a few do it well. King’s The Story is one these few. The debut three-track EP highlights harmony of three ladies over an amalgam of light guitars, keys, and synths, big drums, tambourines, and pulsating bass without beating us over the head with either the accompaniments or any particular voice. In other words, the group’s wall of sound is more of an entrance than a barrier. I suppose we could all use a bit more supernatural love, and these three tracks played in sequence are a great place to start. Listen on Soundcloud, like them on Facebook, and purchase the EP on iTunes or Amazon.  There’s also a cute cut-and-paste video (above) if you like that sort of thing.
