New Release: K’Naan – ‘Country, God or the Girl’

K’Naan yesterday released his new album, Country, God or the Girl, boasting a diverse sound fusing pop, soul, and reggae with K’Naan’s famously catchy lyricism. Topic matter spans the gamut from politics and society, relationships and loneliness, and mental attitude.

To go with the release, Rolling Stone featured K’Naan in a video where he offers a track by track breakdown behind each song – we’d surely like to get inside the man’s head! Watch above. A new track called “Gold in Timbuktu” is also now available for streaming. Starting out like a lullaby, the song builds into a telling personal reflection. Listen below.

Lee Fields finds himself in conflict when he comes across a cunning lady that tempts him to change his “Faithful Man” ways. Taking place in a nightclub, the video shows what goes on behind the shadows. A fervent Lee takes the stage pleading to keep him from ‘doing wrong.’ This song is soul to the highest degree.

With the video also comes the release of a limited edition 7″ for all the vinyl lovers out there.

Video: K’Naan – “Hurt Me Tomorrow”

K’Naan tells his multicolored crew of lady friends to wait until tomorrow. It’s never really a good time to talk about a break up, is it? And as such, K’Naan dances around in his aloof splendor amidst his colorful women’s color dye laden fits of rage. Whatever works.

K’Naan keeps it pretty damn real on “Hurt Me Tomorrow” – we must say. Lightweight coldblooded. But homie got ish to do, nahmean? It is what it is and stuff.

And the video – bizarre, but certainly entertaining. Humping stuffed animal puppets. That’s all we have to say.

Look out for Country, God or The Girl to drop in July 2012.
