Born and raised in The Third Ward of New Orleans, Jay Electronica gives Mochilla/VTech a solemn tour of his old neighborhood before a live performance of his breakout track, “Exhibit A.”
After a 2 year absence from NYC, José James is finally back and he has a brand new CD to show off. Blackmagic, released February 1st, has been garnering steady critical acclaim since its release. Featuring the likes of Flying Lotus on the production team, this album is both a nod to José’s jazz roots as well as a step into a new R&B laden sound for him. Put Me On It blogger said it best when she said “this is the kind of album that makes you want to name your first born José, even if you’re Nigerian.”
He will be making a rare NYC appearance on Saturday, April 17 at Hiro Ballroom. There are very limited advance tickets and table reservations available here.
If you haven’t heard the new album, you should do yourself a favor and get it now. In the meanwhile here is a remix of his new track “Warrior.”
Check out the video for “Code,” produced by Flying Lotus:

The early 90s saw Omara Portuondo trying to retire from the limelight of Cuban music and settle into a relaxed existence, but after she was featured in The Buena Vista Social Club documentary there was no turning back. The singer released, to international acclaim, The Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo re-enforcing her status as one of the greatest things to reach us from Cuba (arguably since Mojitos).
The Gracias Tour featuring piano virtuoso Roberto Fonseca will be reaching New York City this Saturday, February 27 at Town Hall. This is a rare opportunity for you to catch some of the best Cuban music, so buy your tickets now.
