Our next installment of the SVEDKA Vodka Sessions will feature a very special performance by our favorite jazz crooner José James at the Woodward at Ames, in Boston. Doors open at 8pm, on Tuesday, August 3 and as always entrance is free but strictly RSVP only.
Almaz make their only New York City appearance on Friday, July 30 at Terminal 5 as a part of their Summer US tour promoting their latest project, Everybody Loves The Sunshine. While singer, Seu Jorge, is well known for throwing an amazing show, this new collaboration of musical masters revisiting songs famous within the Brazilian diaspora (Tim Maia, Jorge Ben) meshed with classic American (Roy Ayers, Michael Jackson) and European (Kraftwerk, Cane and Abel) soul songs, with a bit of psychedelic samba to top it off, promises to be a glorious foot stomping orgy. If you haven't already, this is the time to get your tickets before they run out.
After the last two weeks of sweltering heat, there is no doubt that summer is here and in full swing. To mark the momentous occasion (momentous only if you recall this time last summer it was so oddly cold people were pulling out long sleeve shirts) we have quite a day planned out for you at our annual SummerStage show. Raphael Saadiq, Aloe Blacc, TK Wonder w/ Moodswing Orchestra and DJ Vikter Duplaix will be taking the stage in Central Park starting at 3pm on Saturday, July 17.
Doors open at 2pm, so come early and bring the whole family.
Last week we brought you soul/jazz musician Gregory Porter and shared a couple of our favorite tracks ("1960 What?" and "Wisdom"). This week, we caught a video shot in the crowd from a live performance at Smoke in NYC of "Mother," a sweet, soulful song not on the album. You can get more from Gregory Porter on his new album, Water, out now through Motema Music.
